- Brother International Corporation and its subsidiary Brother Industries (U.S.A.), Inc. (collectively “Brother”) obtains personal data from consumers located in the EU, UK and Switzerland in various ways. For example, when consumers provide it on Brother’s websites, through completing a transaction, through Brother’s services, apps and social media channels, at Brother’s events, through surveys, or when contacting customer support via the website or the telephone. The types of relevant consumer personal data Brother collects are described in Brother’s Privacy Policy. Brother processes the following types of customer data: • personal information including first and last name, mailing address (including ZIP code), e-mail address, username, billing contact information, telephone number; • sensitive personal information including but not limited to gender, race, financials, and payment information ; • social media handle and basic account information when a customer interacts with our services through social media; • a unique numerical identifier which is automatically assigned to our customer by a first-party cookie when they use our Site, to identify the customer, provide our Services, keep them logged in to our Site, prevent fraud, and provide them with targeted information and offers; • geolocation data, including certain information about the customer access to and use of our websites and service, such as the name of the Internet service provider and the Internet Protocol (IP) address through which they access the Internet, the dates and times that they access the Sites, and the Services, the pages that they view while at the Sites, information on how the customer interacts with the Sites, and the Internet address of the website from which they linked to the Sites. Information regarding their computer system configuration and operating system is also gathered; • information about the customer use of our products and the devices connected to the products including, but not limited to, the printer model, serial number, Device ID, the device location, usage data and operating information and; • information about consumers through the use of and interaction with customized links or similar technologies to determine whether the e-mail was opened and for how long, and which links were utilized by the customer. Brother processes personal data from consumers to deliver and provide requested services; provide effective customer service; improve its websites and services; make its websites easier to use by eliminating the need for consumers to repeatedly enter the same information; customize websites and services to the consumers' preferences or interests; manage subscriptions; internal process evaluations; process payments; send delivery status updates via SMS messages in connection with consumers' orders; gauge and develop our marketing activities, measure the appeal and effectiveness of our services, applications, and tools; create and manage consumers’ accounts; send promotional materials and other commercial communications, including targeted information, advertisements, and offers; communicate with consumers about, and administer consumers’ participation in, special events, contests, sweepstakes, programs, offers, surveys and market research; respond to inquiries; reduce credit risk and manage collections; verify consumers’ identity; protect against, identify and prevent fraud and other unlawful activity, claims and other liabilities; comply with and enforce applicable legal requirements, relevant industry standards, contractual obligations and Brother’s policies; and in other ways for which Brother provides specific notice at the time of collection. Brother processes data collected through social media to improve its services, respond to consumers' requests or complaints, and send information and advertisements to consumers. Under certain circumstances, and only with prior consent, personal data is shared with Brother’s affiliates and subsidiaries and third-party processors retained to perform services on its behalf and pursuant to its instructions. Brother may also disclose personal data if it is required to do so to protect and defend its property rights, by law or legal process, or in response to lawful requests from public authorities, including to meet national security, public interest, or law enforcement requirements.
