Scope
Small Steps Labs LLC (dba Fitabase) provides a software platform that enables academic, clinical, and pharmaceutical research organizations to collect and analyze data from consumer wearable devices (e.g., Fitbit and Garmin) worn by consenting research participants. In reliance on the EU-U.S. DPF, the UK Extension to the EU-U.S. DPF, and the Swiss-U.S. DPF, Fitabase processes two types of non-HR personal data: (1) customer/client data, consisting of the names, email addresses, organizational affiliations, and account login and usage information of research staff who administer studies on the platform, which is used to create and manage accounts, provide support, and bill for services; and (2) research participant data, consisting of wearable-derived activity, sleep, heart rate, weight, and related health and fitness measurements, together with any identifiers assigned by the research team, which Fitabase receives from the device maker with the participant's authorization and processes as an agent on behalf of its research customers solely to make the data available to those customers for their studies. Fitabase discloses personal data only to the research customer directing the relevant study and to third-party service providers acting as Fitabase's agents under contract, namely cloud hosting (Microsoft Azure) and payment processing providers. Fitabase does not sell personal data or disclose it to other third parties except as required by law."

What GDPR means, and what it does not

"GDPR compliant" is a claim, not a certification. The verifiable facts are a public DPA, SCC usage, an EU representative, data residency options and a Data Privacy Framework listing.

Questions buyers ask

Is Fitabase GDPR compliant?

There is no GDPR certification in general use. The verifiable facts are a public data processing agreement, standard contractual clauses, an EU representative and a Data Privacy Framework listing. See the legal artefacts and the DPF row on this page, each with its capture date.

How does CertReports verify this?

Every state carries a capture date, a source and a snapshot link. Registry rows come from the official registry data; vendor statements come from the vendor’s own page or trust centre; nothing is inferred. Vendors can dispute any row and corrections ship within two business days.
